From time to time, I participate in some of the major nature photo contests. Submitting just a good image is by far not enough. Between thousands of other good images, your contribution has to be outstanding in some way to get the attention and appreciation of the judges. This is always a tough job, since you have to compete with some of the best photographers on international level, many of them are professionals. On the other hand, if it works, it gives you a damned good feeling and it is the sweetest reward for getting up and out at 4 a.m. on days you do not have to work.
